A few months ago, I heard that Fall Out Boy was going to release a cover of Michael Jackson's "Beat it" as the lead-off single for their new record. At first, I cringed. Then, in an attempt to cope, I tried to rationalize it. They must have knocked it out of the park. Their version of the song must be so amazing that it surpasses every expectation for a follow-up to their past successes. Surely, a band with a pleasantly plump and pasty suburbanite out front will be able to live up to the greatness that ensued when a still-black Jacko let Quincy Jones take the helm.
